View from the Bridge May 2017

by Commander Steve Scheu The boating season is upon us and your Squadron is getting into full gear. Make sure you check out AO Glenn’s article about the upcoming spring dinner meeting (May 19) at JRH Brewery and National Safe Boating Week to follow the week after. Our Bridge did vote at the last meeting to officially change our name to the Tri-Cities Boating Club. We are working out the logistics as the change does require an alteration in our by-laws, but we hope to have it implemented in a few months. We believe that the name Tri-Cities Boating Club best defines our geographical location and our purpose and helps eliminate the confusion regarding our use of the Johnson City Sail and Power Squadron. Yes we are still a unit of the United States Power Squadrons – “America’s Boating Club”  as our mission is still to promote boating education and safety within our community while creating lasting friendships. We are pleased you are visiting our new web site. Note the new layouts for the calendar…..Events are readily visible under the Member’s Calendar…. and other new features. We will continue to work on this new site to make improvements so give us your feedback. All of us on the Bridge look forward to safe and fun boating with you as the season gets under...

Saturday May 20, the first day of the National Safe Boating Week, members of our Tri-Cities Boating Club will be on duty at one of our Sponsor’s, Laurel Marina on South Holston Lake. We will have a banner up and VSC (Vessel Safety Check) inspector’s will be on the dock promoting safety and the Club.  To you members with boats at Laurel, this would be a great time to get your boat inspection renewed.
